Santorini Makes "Pay What You Feel The Food Is Worth" Permanent

As it turned out, the response to Santorini's "Pay What You Feel The Food Is Worth" was outstanding and owner Paula Douralas has decided to extend the idea until the end of always. Since the Greek restaurant (Grand Street and Bedford Avenue) opened in 2008, Paula would run this campaign for one-day-a-year, on November 4th, to celebrate another year of business. This year, Paula took the idea to the next level and implemented the practice for the entire month of November, with the stipulation that if it worked, she would maintian the model permanently.

I recently spoke the Paula and she told me that the new system, which is extremely common in Australia, has been driving in so many new customers; they come for the deal, but they return because the food is that "Worth It" (check out our Foodporn on Santorini). She also told me that it has been a very rare case when someone would take advantage of the situation, leaving little to no money. What it boils down to is that people are inherently good, and when a decision like this is left up to them they'll usually take the high road. In the beginning it seemed like people were afraid to come in, an idea like this can often be a trap of some sort, but once word got out, business was booming.

Paula did admit that she was a little nervous at first. Not because people wouldn't come, but because she wanted to be sure that everything was perfect, from the service to the food to the atmosphere. Aparently it was and Paula is proving that by continuing the "Pay What You Feel The Food Is Worth". Be sure to get down to Santorini on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 8 PM to catch some excellent live music and a lively crowd.

It's definitely been working well for Santorini. Paula is great and so hospitable too, it feels like grandma's house and not a restaurant.
