Welcome to Here's Williamsburg!

We hope that this will become your go-to blog for everything Williamsburg-related, from food to history to business openings and closings, to exclusive scoops that you won't find anywhere else.

Like at our sister site, Here's Park Slope, we're out walking the neighborhood beat nearly every day, speaking to local business owners and keeping track of the goings-on in the area. Think of us as the person at the party who somehow knows everything that's happening.

Soon in this space you'll begin to notice exclusive coupons and offers for local businesses, as well as a few other surprises down the road. So follow us on Twitter and Facebook (links are to the left), and check in every day for local scoops as well as business profiles, interviews with bartenders, foodporn, and some history.

Looking forward to having you along for the ride!

Coming Soon: Xixg Restaurant, 241 South 5th Street

South Williamsburg isn't exactly comparable to the Williamsburg that we know and love; the vibe is different. It's certainly cheaper, too (I'm talking from the bridge down to Broadway). The north sides rapid change into more of the East Village than the shady Brooklyn our parents think about when we say we're moving here is generally denoted by coffee shops, restaurants, bars and high-end boutiques. The south side has had a few attempts at that, but generally met with failure. Aldos Coffee Shop, on South 5th and Havemeyer Streets is one of them. But in todays market, it seems the push down to the south is coming on stronger than usual. Xixg LLC is opening a new restaurant in Aldos' all but demolished space.

It's unclear what style the restaurant will be; there is no number to get a hold of anyone, and the gate is never open, but what is clear is the signage posted on the shudders. The Xixg restaurant, like yesterdays coverage of DB Southside, a new bar a few blocks up on Havemeyer, has posted the "Attention Residents and Neighbors" sign, which is ordinarily posted when an opening is on the horizon. Though I haven't seen this posting before, the chance for residents to speak for or against the new eatery on a public forum has since passed (the town meeting was on December 6th), but regardless, keep an eye out for the new lunch and dinner spot serving booze, and we'll keep you posted.
